Where safari was born. The Masai Mara, the Great Migration, and the lodges that defined African luxury travel.
Kenya is the original safari destination. This is where European explorers first fell in love with African wildlife, where Out of Africa was filmed, and where the luxury safari lodge was invented. The Masai Mara remains the gold standard for game viewing, particularly during the Great Migration when over a million wildebeest cross from the Serengeti.
Beyond the Mara, Kenya offers remarkable diversity. The Laikipia Plateau has become a conservation success story with some of the most exclusive camps in Africa. Amboseli delivers iconic views of Kilimanjaro with elephants in the foreground. And the coast around Lamu offers Swahili culture and Indian Ocean beauty. This is a country that has been welcoming travellers for over a century, and it shows in the refinement of the experience.
The dry seasons (January-March and July-October) are best for game viewing. July to October is peak season for the Great Migration. The "green season" (April-June, November) offers lower prices and dramatic landscapes but more rain.
