Africa's city of gold. A creative capital where art, history, and culinary innovation collide. The perfect gateway to safari.
Johannesburg is not the South Africa of postcards. It's grittier, more complex, and infinitely more interesting. This is the economic engine of the continent, a city that has reinvented itself from mining town to creative hub. The streets of Maboneng pulse with galleries, restaurants, and markets. Rosebank has become a destination for luxury shopping. And the hotels have elevated to meet global standards.
For travellers, Jozi (as locals call it) serves two purposes: it's a destination in its own right for those seeking urban Africa, and it's the ideal gateway to safari country. Many of our itineraries begin or end here, allowing time to decompress, explore, and experience the city before heading into the bush.
Johannesburg is pleasant year-round due to its altitude (1,753m). October to April is warmer with afternoon thunderstorms. May to September is cooler and dry. The city never really has a "low season" as it's primarily a business destination.
